Sofora (Sophora japonica L.)

Chinese shupine, Japanese shupin, Japanese sofora (Styphnolobium japonicum (L.) Schott) - a tree species from the bean family. The name comes from the characteristic form of the fruit that resembles strings of pearls. It also contains large amounts of flavonoids (up to 30%), mainly rutosides (rutin). In addition, it contains soforoside, sorabielazide, glycosides, essential oils, acid complex and other substances.

Japanese Sofora is an unrivaled record holder in the plant kingdom in terms of the content of rutin (vitamin P) and other vitamin-like compounds close to routine.

In Chinese medicine, pearl bead was used as a blood vessel tonic. Initially, a simple form of the drug was used in the form of a decoction, then a more effective and convenient to use tincture. Unfortunately, as with many other plants, the use of sofora in official medicine has so far been very limited, which is explained by the lack of sufficient research on the plant and scientifically documented healing effects. On the other hand, alternative medicine has for decades confirmed the high effectiveness of this plant in the treatment of many disease entities. Two forms are used for medicinal purposes: alcohol tincture made of flowers and fruits of sofora, and decoction of fruits themselves.
